Donnie Wahlberg‘s brother, Chef Paul Wahlberg, is celebrating the final episodes of Blue Bloods by sharing some recipes inspired by the hit CBS series with fans.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip of Chef Paul’s newest creation, he showed off how to make a meatloaf, red bliss mashed potatoes with sour cream, and horseradish, carrots and green beans with lemon, garlic and rosemary.
“Growing up, that was one of our favorites because of that beautiful smell and it always came with mashed potatoes,” Chef Paul, 60, who iscelebrity-news/pictures/celeb-siblings-2013107/”> Donnie, 55, and Mark Wahlberg‘s brother, explained in the video about making an “elevated” version of a classic meatloaf by using bacon. “The first time I had seen this was when my mom had done this. It is just one of those things that we are really excited about. Bacon makes everything taste better.”
Chef Paul used the lessons he learned in the kitchen as a child to inspire his own recipe.
“When we were kids it was either tomato sauce or ketchup that coated the outer sauce of the meatloaf,” he noted. “And that is what is great about coming home into a kitchen where food is cooking. It smells like dinner. There are certain vegetables that I smell when they are cooking that remind me of being a kid.”
Chef Paul and Wahlburgers have given viewers the chance to recreate meals based on the Reagan family dinners. There will be a total of eight recipes that coincide with a Sunday dinner on each episode of Blue Bloods‘ final season.
Blue Bloods, which premiered in 2010, follows the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom work for the NYPD under the leadership of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), has also been central to the show alongside Frank’s children: daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and sons Danny (Donnie) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).
As Blue Bloods airs its final episodes, cast members, including Donnie, have been outspoken about finding a way for the show to continue.
“Four years ago we were in this room and none of us knew if we would ever see each other again for a lot worse reasons. Maybe one of the worst days of my life, and I’m sure in a lot of your lives,” Donnie said in reference to the COVID pandemic in a video shared by CBS in August from the last day of filming. “We didn’t know what was going to happen in this world, and somehow we got another few years together and God willing we’ll get some more time together to do something magical again. I would just be honored to work with any of you again and I pray that that can happen, one way or another, I won’t give up trying. Let’s have a great night together, we f—ing earned it.”
Blue Bloods 14th and final season wraps up on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET. Chef Paul’s exclusive Blue Bloods recipe series is available on YouTube.
