Lahore High Court Discharges Sanam Javed in May 9 riots case

In a significant legal development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench has discharged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Sanam Javed from a case registered by the Gujranwala police. The bench, comprising Justice Asjad Javaid Ghural and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, rendered the decision after hearing arguments presented during Wednesday’s proceedings.

Sanam Javed had filed a petition challenging her physical remand ordered by an anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala related to a May-9 case. The LHC’s decision to set aside the remand marks a pivotal moment in the legal battle surrounding Javed’s arrest, which occurred following her release from a Sargodha jail on June 5.

The case against Sanam Javed was initiated by the Gujranwala Cantonment Police in connection with incidents of violence that occurred on May 9. The discharge granted by the LHC underscores the judiciary’s role in ensuring fair legal proceedings and upholding individual rights amidst legal challenges.
