Punjab Begins Follow-Up Workshops for Polio Workers to Address Challenges

In a significant move to enhance the effectiveness of its polio eradication efforts, Punjab has commenced a series of follow-up workshops with frontline polio workers. This initiative builds on discussions held over a year ago to understand and resolve the challenges these essential workers face.

The workshops, which started in 2023, are designed to evaluate the progress made in addressing the issues highlighted by polio workers. These workers, who are crucial to the immunization program and deeply embedded within their communities, have been vocal about the barriers they encounter. Their feedback aims to drive impactful solutions, some of which could be implemented without financial investment.

During a recent workshop held at a local hotel, participants discussed various problems and potential solutions. The final report, set to be released next week, will categorize these solutions into short, mid, and long-term actions.

Khizer Afzaal Chaudhary, Coordinator of the Punjab Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), underscored the critical role of polio workers in the eradication effort. He assured that their concerns are a top priority and stressed that the program is committed to treating these workers with respect and ensuring their safety. Chaudhary praised their extraordinary efforts and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting them as they work towards a polio-free Pakistan.
