In Lahore, the Provincial Advocacy Forum for Women Agricultural Workers (WAWs) has delved into the critical issues these women face and proposed a path toward their empowerment. Hosted by AwazCDS-Pakistan, the event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including civil society representatives, government officials, and media personnel, to address the challenges in the agricultural sector.
Zia ur Rehman, Chief Executive of AwazCDS-Pakistan, emphasized the forum’s goal to advocate for the rights and betterment of WAWs, stressing the need for collaborative efforts to ensure fair treatment and access to essential resources. He highlighted the vital role these women play in Punjab’s economy and called for the development of supportive legislation.
The forum featured a documentary, “Hands that Feed Us,” which vividly illustrated the struggles and resilience of women in agriculture. Rehana Afzal from the Punjab Social Protection Authority shared insights on initiatives like the Aghosh Program, aimed at supporting women in distress and planning for broader social protection.
Discussions revealed widespread issues, including wage disparity, lack of social security, and insufficient access to resources and training. Participants called for united efforts and legislative action to address these challenges, seeking a more equitable and empowered future for women in Punjab’s agricultural sector.
