The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for Karachi, predicting isolated dust thunderstorms with rain today, Monday. This weather phenomenon is expected to provide some relief to residents from the prevailing heat.
According to PMD’s weather forecast, the rain is anticipated in the afternoon, coinciding with temperatures ranging between 35°C to 37°C. Over the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 31°C. Current meteorological observations indicate winds blowing from the west and southwest at 12 kilometres per hour, accompanied by a humidity level of 73%.
While stormy conditions are predicted for Karachi today, the Met Office cautions that the weather is likely to remain hot and humid over the next 24 hours. There is also a possibility that these stormy conditions may continue into tomorrow.
In preparation for the upcoming monsoon rains, the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) of Karachi has already taken proactive measures. The CBC has declared a rain emergency in its jurisdiction, deploying special teams to ensure timely drainage of rainwater. A total of 1,288 staff members have been assigned specific duties under the rain emergency plan, focusing on areas susceptible to flooding.
The CBC spokesperson highlighted that 638 staffers are allocated across seven sectors, while 650 others are tasked with drainage operations. Special attention has been given to low-lying areas, particularly in DHA Phase-I to Phase VIII, Clifton Block 8 and 9, and the market areas. Heavy machinery will be deployed in affected areas, and additional teams will be stationed at commercial avenues such as Khayaban-e-Shujaat, Khayaban-e-Shehbaz, Khayaban-e-Badar, and Khayaban-e-Tariq to manage potential flooding risks effectively.
