Commonwealth Secretary General Praises Pakistan’s Youth Empowerment Efforts

In a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s office on Wednesday, Patricia Scotland, the Commonwealth Secretary General, commended Pakistan’s initiatives to empower its youth under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Scotland spoke at the Young Entrepreneurs Awards distribution ceremony, praising the efforts made to support and develop young talent in the country.

Scotland highlighted the significant role of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, led by Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, in providing opportunities and resources for young people. She expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality she received in Pakistan and noted the country’s dedication to youth empowerment.

With 65% of Pakistan’s youth between 18 and 30 years old, Scotland emphasized the potential for Pakistan to lead in development by training young people in modern technologies. She also recognized the importance of harnessing the energy and innovation of youth for national and economic growth.

The Commonwealth Secretary General applauded the Youth Loan and Agricultural Scheme, which has distributed 186 billion rupees among over 280,000 young entrepreneurs since its inception in 2013. She noted that the low rate of non-performing loans, under 3%, reflects the scheme’s transparency and success.

Scotland concluded her remarks by urging the award recipients to adapt to the rapidly evolving world, particularly the growing field of artificial intelligence, to continue driving positive change
