PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi set to become ACC President

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is set to be appointed as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Geo News reported on Tuesday. Naqvi’s two-year tenure as ACC president will begin in January next year.

Currently, the ACC is chaired by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chairman Jay Shah, who took on the role in 2021 and had his term extended through January 2024. The ACC presidency rotates among member countries, and Naqvi’s appointment is expected to be made official after the next ACC meeting, scheduled for October-November.

Naqvi, who was appointed PCB chairman in February this year for a three-year term, is also serving as the interior minister of Pakistan. To manage his responsibilities effectively, Naqvi has decided to share his duties with former Pakistan cricket team captain Waqar Younis. While Naqvi will focus on administrative matters within the board, Younis will act as his advisor on cricket affairs. Younis will oversee issues related to international and domestic cricket, the selection committee, and the no-objection certificates (NOCs) of the players.

The PCB constitution of 2014 allows the chairman to divide or share his power with another official, ensuring smooth and efficient management.
