PCB bans fans from watching Pak vs Ban Test at National Stadium

Summary:

  • PCB announces no spectators for the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh Test match in Karachi due to stadium upgrades.
  • Ticket sales are suspended, and refunds will be automatically processed.
  • The upgrades are part of preparations for the 2025 Champions Trophy, the first ICC event in Pakistan since 1996.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, scheduled to take place in Karachi from August 30 to September 3, will be held without spectators. This decision is a direct result of the ongoing stadium upgrades aimed at preparing the venue for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the PCB acknowledged the importance of fans in creating a vibrant atmosphere but emphasized that the safety and timely completion of the stadium renovations were paramount. “We understand the vital role that our enthusiastic supporters play in cricket, providing encouragement and inspiration to our players. However, after thoroughly considering all options, we have concluded that the safest course of action is to hold the match without spectators,” the board stated.

Consequently, ticket sales for the match have been suspended, and those who have already purchased tickets will receive full refunds, which will be automatically processed and credited to their accounts.

The PCB’s decision is part of a broader effort to enhance the stadium’s facilities, ensuring it meets international standards for the upcoming Champions Trophy. This will be the first International Cricket Council (ICC) event hosted in Pakistan since 1996, marking a significant milestone for the country’s cricketing history.

Meanwhile, the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh will take place in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25. The Bangladesh men’s cricket team arrived in Lahore on Tuesday and is scheduled to train at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from August 14 to 16.
