Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have seized a Togo-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf and arrested its nine-person crew over allegations of fuel smuggling, according to a statement on the Sepahnews website on Monday.

The tanker, named Pearl G, was intercepted on Friday morning by a judicial order. The Guards’ statement detailed that the vessel, carrying 700,000 litres of fuel, is owned by an Iraqi resident of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The capture took place near the Arash oil field, a contested area between Iran and Kuwait, as the tanker was allegedly loading smuggled fuel from Iranian barges.
