Lahore has been hit with an unprecedented rainfall, shattering a 44-year-old record. The city saw over 300 mm of rain, transforming its major highways into rivers and causing severe disruptions. Tragically, this deluge led to the death of a girl and injuries to five other individuals in incidents involving roof collapses.

The rain gauge at Lahore’s airport recorded an astounding 300 mm, surpassing all previous records for the area. Most parts of the city experienced over 200 mm of rain, with Nishtar Town reaching 250 mm and Paniwala Talab 226 mm. The flooding has been so severe that Lesco’s feeders tripped, contributing to widespread power outages.

In response to the emergency, Lahore’s Commissioner declared a rain emergency, prompting the closure of schools and offices to prevent further damage. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has ordered immediate drainage of water and issued alerts to relevant departments. Rescue operations have been underway, but the heavy rains have already resulted in significant casualties, including the drowning of a 14-year-old boy named Abdullah near Chongi Amarsadhu. Rescue 1122 confirmed that the boy was found deceased.

The record-breaking rainfall has led to extensive damage, including the collapse of several homes and the disruption of daily life. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has assured that compensation will be provided to the victims’ families as the city grapples with the aftermath of this historic weather event
