On Tuesday, a special court in Lahore postponed the money laundering case against former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and several co-accused. The case, led by Special Court (Central) Judge Sheikh Tanveer Ahmad, will reconvene on September 19, 2024. During the hearing, Elahi, who appeared with his daughter Zara Elahi and other accused individuals, informed the court of his deteriorating health. The judge allowed Elahi to remain seated due to his condition.

Zara Elahi’s legal representative requested a permanent exemption from her client’s physical attendance, citing her adherence to purdah (veil). The counsel assured the court that Zara Elahi would attend the proceedings for the indictment. The court agreed to the request and adjourned the case accordingly.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has charged Elahi and others with money laundering. This adjournment allows the case to continue while addressing health and procedural concerns raised by the accused.
