  • Residents demand the government restore gas supply at least during summer cooking hours.
  • Lesco and SNGPL continue to address power theft and gas pilferage issues.

Residents of Lahore are frustrated as gas supply cuts during peak cooking hours add to their woes, already exacerbated by frequent power outages and fluctuations. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) have left many households struggling without gas during essential times, causing significant inconvenience.

Citizens are demanding the government restore gas supply around the clock, especially during summer. “We never experienced gas cuts during cooking hours in summer before,” said a resident of Johar Town, emphasizing the need for gas at least for cooking. A Gulshan Ravi resident shared that his area has faced this issue for the past six months. Initially, the gas supply cuts were understandable during the increased winter demand, but extending this schedule into summer has left many frustrated. He recounted an incident where his family couldn’t even serve tea to guests due to the gas shortage.

SNGPL’s spokesperson denied any official schedule to limit gas supply during cooking hours but promised to investigate and resolve any issues. Meanwhile, the ongoing power loadshedding, tripping, and fluctuations continue to plague residents. “We pay our bills regularly but face eight hours of loadshedding daily,” said a Batapur resident, highlighting the daily power disruptions.

Lesco’s spokesperson acknowledged power supply disruptions in areas serviced by 36 of the 2,169 feeders but assured that complaints were being resolved within 30 minutes to three hours. In an effort to tackle gas and electricity theft, SNGPL and Lesco teams have been active. On Tuesday, SNGPL disconnected 28 connections for gas pilferage and illegal usage, imposing fines in multiple regions. Lesco also disconnected 536 connections for electricity theft and arrested 41 suspects involved.

The residents of Lahore continue to call for reliable gas and electricity supplies, urging authorities to address these persistent issues and restore normalcy to their daily lives.
