In Lahore, President Asif Ali Zardari visited the residence of PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday to inquire about his health and discuss the current political situation in Pakistan. Accompanied by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the meeting covered various national and political matters.

President Zardari was in Lahore to attend a seminar honoring the late journalist Waris Mir. During the meeting with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, President Zardari emphasized the need for unity and collective effort for Pakistan’s development, stating, “If Pakistan prospers, we all prosper, and there is a need to work together.” He acknowledged Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s seniority and contributions to the country.

The seminar also saw President Zardari addressing the importance of using social media responsibly for societal betterment. He reiterated the government’s commitment to press freedom and recognized Professor Waris Mir’s advocacy for democracy and journalism. Zardari highlighted that social media has empowered people by amplifying their voices but also warned of the dangers of agenda-driven information and manipulation by strong religious lobbies aiming to divide Muslim societies.

Furthermore, President Zardari called for holistic approaches and prudent financial policies to spur national development, especially in the agricultural sector. He emphasized the need for steadfastness in facing challenges, paying tribute to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s sacrifices for democracy and the continuous struggle of the Pakistan People’s Party despite political pressures and assassination attempts. “Life and death are in Allah Almighty’s hands,” he remarked.

President Zardari also honored the contributions of Professor Waris Mir to democracy and journalism, praising Faisal Mir and Hamid Mir for continuing their father’s legacy. Senior journalist Hamid Mir urged an end to political victimization and adherence to the 1973 Constitution, while Sohail Warraich appreciated President Zardari’s political wisdom and his potential role in fostering political reconciliation to address the nation’s political and economic issues.
