In a concerning development, Punjab has reported 16 new cases of dengue fever within a span of 24 hours, according to the provincial health department. The surge in cases has prompted heightened vigilance from health authorities across the region.

Among the reported cases, three individuals are currently undergoing treatment at Kalar Saidan Hospital, while two others are receiving medical care at Taxila Hospital. The rapid increase in cases underscores the urgency of preventive measures and public awareness campaigns to curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

Additionally, authorities have taken stringent action against violations of dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), registering 50 cases and imposing fines totaling Rs40,000. These measures aim to enforce compliance with preventive guidelines and mitigate further transmission of the dengue virus.

Dengue fever is caused by the bite of infected female mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus species. Common symptoms include high fever accompanied by severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, and rash. Early detection and timely medical intervention are crucial in managing dengue cases effectively.
