PPP leaders gathered at the Governor House Lahore on Friday to celebrate President Asif Zardari’s birthday and honor his political contributions. Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider and former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf attended the ceremony as chief guests. The event also saw the presence of Syed Hasan Murtaza, Rana Farooq Saeed, Shahzad Saeed Cheema, Mian Misbahur Rehman, and journalist Sohail Warriach, along with many party workers.

The leaders praised Zardari for his resilience and dedication to Pakistan. They compared him to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, stating that such leaders are born once in centuries. Following the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto, Zardari’s leadership was crucial in preventing chaos by promoting unity with the slogan “Pakistan Khape.”

Governor Sardar Saleem Haider highlighted Zardari’s conciliatory approach in politics and his respect for opponents. He acknowledged Zardari’s sacrifices for democracy and his time in imprisonment. He also emphasized PPP’s historical sacrifices for the country’s stability, including forming an alliance with the Muslim League (N) to avoid another election.

Zardari’s role in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project was commended, and the current challenges facing Pakistan were discussed. Governor Haider noted the industrial shift to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka due to energy shortages and the impact of inflation and high electricity bills on the populace. He mentioned Zardari’s solution to the energy crisis, advocating for the completion of the Iran gas pipeline.

A birthday cake was cut in Zardari’s honor, and a special prayer was offered for the Muslims of Palestine and for peace in Pakistan. Earlier, Vice Chancellors of Women Universities of Punjab met with the governor, discussing university matters and the importance of empowering women for national development. Governor Haider emphasized the need for meritocracy and good governance in universities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for students.
