The Punjab government has signed an agreement with China’s Aiko Solar Energy Company to set up a solar panel manufacturing plant in the province. Punjab’s Minister of Industry, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, signed the agreement with Chinese officials, marking a significant step in developing the region’s solar energy sector.

Minister Hussain noted that India generates around one billion dollars through solar panel exports, and Punjab aims to replicate this success by collaborating with international firms. The initiative includes plans to convert 7,000 tubewells in Punjab to solar energy, offering a sustainable solution for the agricultural sector.

The provincial government also intends to provide solar panels to low-income families, either for free or through affordable installment plans. To ensure the quality and performance of solar products, a solar panel testing lab will be established in the province. Additionally, the government plans to develop a garment city in Sheikhupura, spanning 600 acres, as part of its broader industrial growth strategy.
