Must read

Summary:

  • The Punjab government has introduced a 14 rupee per unit relief on electricity bills for consumers.
  • The reduction applies to users consuming between 201 to 500 units.
  • The Punjab government will cover the cost difference between the reduced rate and the actual cost of electricity.

In a significant move to provide financial relief to residents, the Punjab government has mandated a reduction of 14 rupees per unit on electricity bills for consumers across Punjab and Islamabad. This decision, made under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to ease the financial burden on electricity users in the region.

Secretary Energy Punjab, Dr. Naeem Rauf, has sent official letters to the major electricity distribution companies, including IESCO, MEPCO, GEPCO, FESCO, and LESCO. These letters instruct the companies to apply the new rate to the bills of consumers who use between 201 to 500 units of electricity. The Punjab government has committed to covering the financial gap between the actual cost of electricity and the reduced rate offered to consumers.

The initiative is part of a broader government package designed to alleviate the cost of living for the public. By directly transferring the required funds to the electricity companies, the Punjab government ensures that consumers receive the promised relief without any additional financial strain. This move highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to support its citizens amid rising utility costs.
