• Threads is tightly integrated with other Meta platforms, offering broad sharing options.

Threads, Meta’s Twitter rival that launched from Instagram on July 5, 2023, has reached a significant milestone in its first year, growing to 175 million monthly active users. Mark Zuckerberg himself shared this news on Threads.

The platform experienced rapid initial growth, reaching 100 million users just five days after its launch. Although the growth pace has since slowed, Threads reported 130 million users in February and 150 million in April, showing steady progress.

To celebrate the 175 million user milestone, the Threads team introduced new custom icons. The mobile app update allows users to choose from five new icons, available in addition to the default one. More icons will be added daily until July 12, accessible under the Your Profile tab by tapping the birthday cake icon. These custom icons are available for a limited time, so users are encouraged to select one soon.

Threads remains interconnected with Meta’s wider platform ecosystem. As of June 25, users in over 100 countries can share their Threads posts across the fediverse.

According to Instagram, 63% of all posts on Threads are text-only. Additionally, one in four posts includes at least one photo. Voice notes are also gaining popularity, especially among younger users. Instagram’s recent survey of 2,000 users, from Gen Z to Boomers, reveals interesting insights into how different generations use the platform.
