Google has introduced an exciting new feature with the Pixel Watch 3: offline Google Maps. This allows users to navigate even when their smartwatch lacks an active internet connection or isn’t paired with a smartphone that has internet access. The feature is initially available on the Pixel Watch 3 and will soon be available for other smartwatches running Wear OS.

The offline maps functionality is accessible through the Google Maps app in beta version 11.140.0701.W. Users will find a new “Offline maps” page in the app’s menu, situated above the “Settings” option. When updated, the app automatically downloads and stores a map of the user’s local area, as well as other offline areas synced from their connected smartphone.

Moreover, the smartwatch will update offline maps whenever it is connected to Wi-Fi and charging. An icon of a slashed cloud will appear next to the time on the map, indicating that the device is operating offline. This feature aims to enhance the usability of Wear OS smartwatches, ensuring that users can rely on navigation services even without constant internet access.
