Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a warm welcome to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, who landed at Pakistan Air Force’s Nur Khan base for a two-day official visit. The visit, initiated at PM Shehbaz’s invitation, began with a grand reception featuring a red carpet and a 21-gun salute.
During his stay, President Aliyev is scheduled to hold crucial meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and other senior officials from both nations. The agenda includes comprehensive discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
Expectations are high for the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Islamabad and Baku, focusing on areas of mutual interest and strategic importance.
Earlier reports indicated that President Zardari would host a banquet in honor of President Aliyev, with additional meetings planned between the Azerbaijani leader and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. Foreign ministers from both countries are also set to engage in talks at the Foreign Office.
This visit marks President Aliyev as one of several heads of state scheduled to visit Pakistan in the coming months, underscoring Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties with global partners. In recent interactions, Pakistan hosted the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, resulting in agreements to advance bilateral cooperation in trade, connectivity, energy, and cultural exchanges.
President Aliyev’s visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its diplomatic engagements and fostering deeper ties with Azerbaijan, aimed at mutual prosperity and regional stability.
