  • A police case has been filed, and tensions rise amid ongoing political controversies.

In a dramatic turn of events, PTI Member of National Assembly Imtiaz Choudhary was freed by gunmen while being transported by an Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team. The attack happened late Tuesday night on New Shadiwal Road in Gujrat. Armed men in three vehicles ambushed the ACE team, firing upon their vehicle and forcibly taking Choudhary away.

Choudhary, who was in ACE custody since July 25, is accused of accepting kickbacks from development projects during the Imran Khan-led PTI government. He was being taken to Mandi Bahauddin for questioning when the attack occurred. The PTI MNA was due to appear before a civil court the next day.

A case has been filed at the Saddar police station in Gujrat, with several serious charges including attempted murder and assault. This incident adds to the mounting tensions within Pakistani politics, which have been heightened by recent judicial and political developments.

Earlier, PTI MNA Moazzam Khan Jatoi was also detained by ACE, while PTI’s Ameer Sultan was reportedly abducted in Lahore. PTI Chairman Gohar Khan has accused the government of pressuring party members to switch allegiances following a Supreme Court ruling on reserved seats for women and minorities.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on July 12 deemed PTI eligible for reserved seats, which could shift the balance of power in the national assembly and increase pressure on the current coalition. The Election Commission of Pakistan has since notified 93 PTI members across various provinces, further intensifying the political landscape.
