Nation Braces for Heavy Monsoon Rains as Forecast Predicts Widespread Downpours

  • Pakistan is set to experience heavy monsoon rains from August 1 to 6, with widespread downpours and occasional gaps.
  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of possible flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides across various regions.
  • Authorities are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions due to the expected severe weather conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting heavy monsoon rains across the country from August 1 to 6. This weather pattern will bring torrential showers, with strong monsoon currents expected to affect various regions. The PMD noted that rain and thunderstorms would begin affecting upper areas from the night of July 31, with impacts extending to central and southern parts by August 2.

In Sindh, cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur will face scattered heavy rainfall with isolated very heavy falls. Kashmir, including Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad, will experience similar weather, with occasional heavy showers. In Punjab, significant rainfall is expected in cities like Lahore and Faisalabad, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will see rain and thunderstorms in areas including Peshawar and Swat. Balochistan will also be affected, with heavy rain anticipated in cities like Quetta and Khuzdar.

The forecast warns of potential flash floods in local streams and rivers, particularly in hilly and vulnerable areas. Urban flooding is a concern for low-lying areas in major cities, while landslides may disrupt travel in hilly regions. The PMD has urged farmers to adjust their activities accordingly and advised travelers and tourists to be cautious and plan their trips around the weather. Authorities are being called upon to stay alert and take preventive measures to mitigate the impact of these heavy rains.
