PTI Launches Committee to Investigate Corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has established a three-member committee to probe corruption allegations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • The committee was formed following complaints from provincial minister Shakeel Khan about embezzlement in various departments.
  • The committee will report directly to PTI founder Imran Khan.

In a recent move to tackle corruption and improve administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has set up a three-member committee. This decision was driven by PTI founder Imran Khan’s directive to address serious allegations against provincial ministers and administrative officials. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, the Information Advisor for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, announced the formation of this committee in a video message on July 30, 2024.

The committee was established after Shakeel Khan, a provincial minister, raised concerns about widespread embezzlement during a meeting with Khan in jail. The newly formed body includes former KP governor Shah Farman, ex-advisor on accountability Musaddiq Abbasi, and former Supreme Court Bar Association president Qazi Anwar. Their task is to thoroughly investigate the provincial government’s performance and hold officials accountable if allegations are proven true.

The committee will submit its findings directly to Imran Khan. In addition to addressing internal issues, Saif criticized federal ministers for their handling of independent power plants (IPPs) agreements, accusing them of exploiting the public with overpriced deals. He argued that these agreements have led to severe load-shedding and inflated electricity bills, worsening the lives of ordinary citizens.
