Summary:

  • MQM-P warns of potential departure from the coalition over the Sindh governor position.
  • Farooq Sattar insists Kamran Tessori should remain governor, dismissing replacement rumors.
  • Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar says a decision on the governor’s post will be made soon.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has issued a stark warning to the ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The party, led by Farooq Sattar, stated it would reconsider its position in the administration if any unilateral decisions are made regarding the Sindh governor’s office.

Sattar emphasized that according to prior agreements with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Kamran Tessori is meant to continue as governor. This comes amid speculation that the PML-N might replace Tessori with Bashir Memon, the former head of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Tessori has rejected these rumors, asserting his ongoing support from key figures like Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari. He insisted he would stay in office despite the circulating reports.

Farooq Sattar has vehemently dismissed the rumors, stating that no consultations have occurred regarding the governor’s position. Khawaja Izharul Hassan, a party colleague, supported Sattar, underscoring the importance of the governor’s role in representing urban areas of Sindh.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has indicated that a resolution on the governor’s position is imminent but denied reports of Memon’s appointment. The MQM-P, a crucial ally in the PML-N-led coalition, has 21 seats in parliament, and any shift in their support could significantly impact the government’s stability.
