- PIA reduces Umrah fares for travelers to Madinah.
- Karachi to Madinah return fare set at Rs 76,000 plus tax.
- Islamabad, Lahore, and other cities have a two-way fare of Rs 86,000 plus tax.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a significant reduction in fares for Umrah pilgrims, offering much-needed relief for travelers heading to Madinah. This initiative is aimed at making the pilgrimage more affordable and accessible for a larger number of people.
A spokesperson for PIA stated that the new discounted fares are now in effect for those traveling from Pakistan to Madinah. The return fare for Umrah pilgrims flying from Karachi to Madinah has been set at Rs 76,000 plus tax. Meanwhile, those departing from Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, and Sialkot will benefit from a two-way fare of Rs 86,000 plus tax.
The spokesperson emphasized that these reduced fares are effective immediately and will remain valid until July 15. This initiative is expected to facilitate a larger number of pilgrims in performing Umrah with greater ease and affordability.
However, travelers should also be aware of the recent changes in taxation for international travel, as approved in the budget for 2024-25. Starting July 1, a tax of Rs 12,500 will be levied on economy and economy plus tickets for international journeys. The finance bill further stipulated a substantial increase in excise duty by Rs 30,000 for business and club class tickets to destinations such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and African countries.
These changes highlight the government’s efforts to balance affordability for Umrah pilgrims while addressing fiscal needs through increased travel taxes. Despite these additional costs, the reduction in fares by PIA is a welcomed move for many looking to undertake the spiritual journey to Madinah.
