- Parents appeal for the safe return of students from Bangladesh.
- Curfew in Bangladesh raises concerns about student safety and food shortages.
- Urgent governmental action requested to ensure students’ well-being.
The declining law and order situation in Bangladesh has left Pakistani parents deeply concerned for the safety of their children studying in various institutions there. Disconnected from their children, anxious parents have written to Sara Aslam, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, pleading for the safe return of their children enrolled in different medical colleges under the SAARC quota.
In their letter, the parents voiced their grave concerns about their children’s well-being amidst the worsening situation that has led the Bangladeshi government to impose a nationwide curfew, with Dhaka being particularly affected. The curfew has resulted in the expulsion of local students from hostels, leaving Pakistani students confined to their hostel premises.
The letter emphasized fears of potential food shortages due to the stringent curfew and urged the government to ensure not only the swift and safe return of all Pakistani students but also the provision of essential food and drink items in the interim. Parents also appealed to the High Commissioner to maintain contact with security personnel in Bangladesh to protect Pakistani students and restore communication with the students to alleviate families’ worries.
“The lack of contact with our children is deeply troubling for all the families involved,” the letter stated. “We request that immediate steps be taken to ensure communication with the students for the peace of mind of their parents.”
The letter concluded with a strong plea for urgent governmental intervention to address the crisis and bring the stranded students back home safely. The deteriorating situation in Bangladesh continues to cause severe distress among Pakistani parents, who are calling for immediate action to ensure their children’s safety and well-being during this tumultuous period.
