PTI Demands Notification for New Chief Justice of Pakistan

PTI Demands Notification for Next Chief Justice Ahead of CJP Isa’s Retirement

Must read

Summary:

  • PTI demands immediate notification of the next Chief Justice of Pakistan before Justice Qazi Faez Isa retires.
  • PTI criticizes the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Election Commission’s recount verdict.
  • The party plans to file a review petition against the court’s ruling on election seat disputes.

As Justice Qazi Faez Isa prepares to retire as Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is calling for an official announcement of his successor. PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, speaking to the media on August 12, 2024, emphasized that any extension of Isa’s term is unacceptable.

This demand follows Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar’s confirmation that Isa is not seeking an extension. Tarar revealed on July 13, 2024, that Isa had made it clear he was uninterested in prolonging his tenure, despite circulating rumors.

PTI’s request for an early announcement of the new Chief Justice is notable as the current CJP’s appointment was announced well in advance of his oath-taking last year. Justice Isa is set to retire on October 25, 2024.

In addition to the Chief Justice issue, PTI has voiced strong objections to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that supported the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to recount votes in several constituencies. Gohar Ali Khan criticized the court’s decision, arguing it contradicts justice and alleging it as part of a broader conspiracy against PTI.

The party plans to challenge the Supreme Court’s verdict by filing a review petition, asserting that recent actions aim to undermine its position and electoral success.
